Solstice Flute Camp began as the Solstice Flute School & Festival with the vision to build community inspired by the heart song of the Native American style flute. Our mission is to honor the tradition of the Native Flute, celebrate its voice, and share its healing power within a supportive, inclusive community.

Since our beginning as the Summer Solstice Flute School in 2013, our community has grown to include award-winning recording artists, Native healers, and aspiring students – beginning players to master-level performers – from around the world. Our origins are in the beautiful state of Utah and in 2023 we moved to our new home at Chapel Rock Camp and Conference Center, located in beautiful and historic Prescott, Arizona.

In 2018, we took the leap and became a 501(c)(3) community-funded nonprofit organization as ‘Where Passion Meets Purpose’ which presents the Solstice Flute Camp. We are wholly organized and run by dedicated volunteers and overseen by a board of directors. Our name was created as it represents not only our passion for playing this healing instrument, but our search to discover our own purpose of how we can use its song to enrich our own lives and the lives of others.

What We Do Matters!

Our core group of renowned artists and teachers, Suzanne Teng & Gilbert Levy, Rona Yellow Robe, Joseph L Young, Kalani Das, and Shelley Morningsong & Fabian Fontenelle, together they have helped shape the culture and curriculum of our school experience today. And we honor those that contributed greatly along the path, Mary Youngblood, Joseph Firecrow, Juanita Ramos Corum, Arvel Bird, Michael Graham Allan (Coyote Oldman), Will Clipman, and Jonny Lipford.

We couldn’t tell our origin story without recognizing the source of the vision for our flute community – Brent Haines, of Woodsounds Flutes, and Nancy Haga, the School’s, now retired, director extraordinaire. Their dedication has been a wellspring for the Solstice Flute School & Festival. Brent’s deep respect for Native culture and love of the Native flute combined with Nancy’s infectious enthusiasm and magnetic call to be part of the ‘Flootie Family’ continue to create a learning experience and community like no other.

We honor the past contribution and endearing friendship of flutemakers Dan Selchow (Journey of Life Flutes), and ‘Mad Max’ Skabelund. In 2022, Dan left this life leaving a legacy of passion for the Native American-style flute, fluting community, and the Solstice Flute School.

With our transformation to Solstice Flute Camp the School grows and transforms each year, at our new home at Chapel Rock in Prescott Arizona, with the creative contributions of our amazing teachers, students, flute makers, volunteers, and vendors.

We invite you to join us! Share your passion and be part of a growing community grounded in the heart song of the Native American-style flute.

Share your passion – may it help you find your purpose.
