What Solstice Flute Camp Means to Me...
Ron Britton asked me the above question in September 2023 and wanted me to write my answer to it for the new website he was working on. I had just finished flute camp 2024 and had taken over as the new Executive Director at the end of it. At that time, the words that came to my mind were overwhelming, massive responsibility, stress, can’t let it fail, and what was I thinking.
Definitely not what Ron was needing at the time, Lol. Now a year later, Ron is asking me the same question and to put something in writing for the website. And guess what, all of those same scary words came to mind again, but this time it’s different. Along the way, I’ve experienced so many new words associations like magic, healing, joy, purpose, gratitude, life changing, and success that outweigh the scary ones.
I had a wonderful team made up of our Board, Instructors, Vendors, Volunteers, Students, and support staff at Chapel Rock to work with. Yes, most of those scary words are still there, but they are no longer scary at all when you have the best team ever sharing them with you. I no longer wonder, “what was I thinking”.
The first time I met Brent Haines, he told me, “what we do matters” and he was so right. The friendships, connections, healing, transformations, and of course all of those magic moments that are always there year after year. Yes, from my perspective, it is a lot of work, but it makes such a difference and is so rewarding. I see everything so differently now. All of this is part of what Solstice Flute Camp means to me and I am honored to be the caretaker of such a wonderful organization.
